10 Ways to Use Fermented Limes

Fresh Limes

I followed these simple instructions for Lacto-fermented Limes, but more than doubled the suggested fermenting time. Limes, lime juice, salt and apple cider vinegar with the mother are the ingredients. I am using Fermentools and a mason jar. Convenient tools for what has been a convenient ferment to have around.

After over a month they looked like lemons instead of limes, but smelled and tasted lovely, light and citrusy:

Probiotic Hummus: Use your fermented lime juice in a recipe like Vegan Lime Cilantro Hummus.

Lime w/ ACV: Having a watered down mixture of lemon or lime with apple cider vinegar is a daily ritual for me. There’s a sweeter version from Gnowfglins for those who need it to be more palatable.

Juice with Lime

Juicing: You may need to quarter your lime in case the skin is too much to handle for your juicer. No need to peel. The pulp and the yellow/green zest should be totally pulverized.

Salad Dressing: Limitless possibilities including Avocado Cilantro Lime Salad Dressing, Honey Lime Vinaigrette, Raspberry Lime Vinaigrette, and Garlic Lime Vinaigrette

Drink: Brazilian Lemonade/Swiss Lemonade

Dip: Cilantro Lime Dip

Slaw: Easy Sweet and Spicy Mexican Cole Slaw

Salad: Raw Citrus Beet Salad

Rice: CopyCat Chipotle Lime Rice Recipe in which lime is added to warm rice.

Remedy: Gingerade recipe for cold and flu relief.

This is my favourite ferment yet, as it’s super easy to incorporate into one’s everyday diet!

  1. These are some really awesome ideas! I especially love the idea of adding some of the lime juice to hummus, as I make hummus constantly and it would be cool to add some probiotics. I think I may try to ferment some limes so I can use these ideas! Lovely post, thank you!
